Calliope Theatre Company

Children's theater Cascais is represented by Calliope Theatre Company, which presents professional English-language productions for schools and theatre audiences. Based on Rua Frederico Arouca in Cascais, the company tours plays across Portugal and Spain, combining live performance with opportunities for students to engage with English.

Its productions are created by professionally trained, native English-speaking artists Matthew Lloyd and Meg Thurin. Shows feature professional actors, costumes, hand-painted scenery, lighting and sound, with educators helping shape the work to support English-language learning and introduce young audiences to live theatre.

For the 2026/2027 school year, Calliope offers Calliope's Little Red Riding Hood for ages 4 to 8, King Arthur and the Stolen Sword for ages 9 to 13, and Calliope's Hamlet for ages 14 and over. Students can join the on-stage fun, while teachers receive study guides with lessons and activities connected to each story.

The company provides both in-school and theatre performances, making it a practical option for educators seeking English-language theatre experiences for different age groups. In-theatre dates are listed for Lisbon, Faro, Porto, Braga and Coimbra in 2026.
